Chief Building Officer

Grounded in the core values of responsiveness, innovation, collaboration, inclusiveness, and accountability, Fleming College has been empowering students since 1967 with the innovative education, research, and real-world experiences they need to build better lives, better communities, and a better world.

Fleming is seeking a Chief Building Officer to ensure campus facilities are sustainably primed to facilitate outstanding student, faculty, and staff experiences for years and generations to come.

Reporting to the President, the Chief Building Officer (CBO) leads the development and implementation of campus and space master plans, oversees building maintenance and repair initiatives, and provides strategic direction and management of projects related to all campus and physical space-related matters. Leading with best practices and an eye towards the future, the CBO initiates cost-effective and sustainable energy management and environmental strategies. The incumbent provides leadership on college-wide issues concerning safety, ensuring all committees are meeting legislated requirements, provided with development opportunities, and addressing issues that impact college facilities. The CBO develops policies, plans, and procedures for parking and security operations, identifying opportunities, mitigating risks, and modifying by-laws when required. With a keen eye for continual campus improvement, the CBO also develops strategies and project proposals for investment in infrastructure, in addition to providing large-scale financial oversight of a $5-6 million budget. A trusted and empowering manager, the CBO is tasked with supervision and human resources planning to ensure their teams are supported, safe, and fulfilled.

As the ideal candidate, you have more than 10 years’ experience, including senior leadership experience in strategic physical resources, project, facility, and/or construction management. You hold a degree (preferably a graduate degree) in a field that would support the advancement of the role of CBO. You have extensive professional experience in space design, building infrastructure, capital development, health and safety, property management and innovative/best practice building management. You are a sound strategic leader with a knack for strategic planning and project management and are readily able to mobilize large teams towards common goals. You are a strong and passionate leader of people, skilled in conflict resolution, mentoring, collaboration, and empowering others. You are driven, entrepreneurial, and show great initiative. You are known for your ability to get things done, despite challenges and speedbumps that may try to slow your progress. You’re positive, energetic, and tenacious.
