The Downtown Portfolio Consultant position leads complex real estate initiatives while also providing real estate expertise on Downtown Strategy programs, and support for the incentive programs by leveraging their experience with negotiations and legal agreements. Primary duties include:

  • Manage the development of short and long-term real estate initiatives with respect to downtown to promote downtown revitalization. The management of these initiatives will include feasibility, options analysis and implementation/project plans which will consist of the preparation of work plans, resources, timelines and related budgets for specific projects.
  • Engage with other Business Units for their subject matter.
  • Provide direction and subject matter expertise to inform other strategies and plans across the business unit with a real estate component.
  • Contribute to the incentive program work by leading certain initiatives and projects. This will include review of applications, working closely with applicants, negotiation and administration of funding agreements.  
  • Work with communications and marketing to ensure both internal and external communication on the projects is aligned.
  • Leverage internal and external partnerships to gain intelligence regarding specific current and future business needs in order to remain current and maximize the benefit of programs to the downtown.
  • Maintain collaborative and productive relationships with brokers, developers, Real Estate Sector Advisory Committee (RESAC) and NAOIP (Commercial Real Estate Development Association) to ensure that the business unit positions itself to complement the work of private industry.
  • Provide direction, coaching and mentoring to the Research Analyst and communication representatives as appropriate.
  • Supervisory responsibilities include identifying staff/resource need to meet the work plan and address project related issues as they arise.
  • Provide direction and coordinate legal resources as required.

Qualifications 

  • A related degree in an area such as Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in Economics, Business Finance, Commerce and/or Real Estate plus at least 5 years' experience including at least 3 years in an industry related to real estate or land development. 
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • Past experience with proformas and cashflows is required.  Ability to deal with complex reports from internal departments and outside sources and knowledge of a multitude of complex topics and issues and the ability to translate and communicate these in readily understandable terms.
  • Success in this position requires project management, strong leadership and team skills; well developed negotiation skills; excellent communication skills; the ability to work and communicate within a group setting; well developed interpersonal skills and business acumen; a high degree of accuracy when working with documents; ability to manage projects; ability to communicate effectively in a public forum and be effective at building partnerships and relationships with partners.

Compensation: Level E $83,059 - 125,413 per annum

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
